MELBOURNE, FL - For the third time this season, Florida Southern College volleyball's Nicole Mattson has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the SSC office announced on Monday afternoon.
Mattson, who has earned the award three times this season, ranks second in the SSC and 25th nationally in kills per set (4.07) and is second in the conference and 32nd in the country in points per set (4.48)
Last week Mattson helped lead the Moccasins to a pair of victories, extending Florida Southern's winning streak to 15-straight matches, the program's longest winning streak since 1993 when the Mocs won 17 in a row. She finished last week with 29 total kills, tallying 15 against Embry-Riddle and 14 against Florida Tech. Mattson also recorded 29 digs, two service aces, and two block assists. She is four kills shy of becoming the 23rd player in school history to record 1,000 career kills.
Mattson is the third different Moccasin to earn one of the SSC's weekly volleyball awards this year joining Bethany Besancenez (Setter of the Week - Oct. 2, Oct. 9, Nov. 6, Nov. 13) and Anna Tovo (Offensive Player of the Week - Nov. 6).
Florida Southern closes out its regular-season home schedule on Tuesday against No. 23 Saint Leo (7 p.m.) and finishes the regular season with road contests at Nova Southeastern (Nov. 17) and Barry (Nov. 18). The Moccasins are currently ranked No. 24 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll and are No. 1 in the latest NCAA South Region poll.
