Lynn scored in each of the final four innings to down the Moccasins 7-3 in a winners' bracket game at the NCAA South Regional at Magnolia, Ark., Saturday night. With the loss the Moccasins (40-15) drop into the loser's bracket and will play an elimination game Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Central Time.
Lynn scored twice in the first, but the Moccasins came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie it on Wade Kirkland's two-run homer. Braxton Chisholm led off the fourth with a solo homer to give the Moccasins a 3-2 lead.
Lynn tied it in the sixth on Douglas Toro's two-out, RBI-double. The Knights took the lead in the seventh when Daniel Flores led off with a triple and scored on a wild throw to third. Flores singled home an insurance run in the eighth and drove in two more in the ninth.
Daniel Rouah pitched the first six innings to get the win. Tommy Kahnle worked three scoreless innings in relief to earn his third save in three tries in the regional. Dustin Merrell, who relieved starter Stephen Batman in the sixth, took the loss, dropping his record to 3-2.
Valdosta State and Southern Arkansas play Sunday in an elimination game at noon, with the winner meeting the Moccasins in another elimination game at 3:30 p.m. (CT). The winner of the Moccasins' game advances to the championship Monday and will have to beat Lynn twice to win the tournament. Lynn needs only one win on Monday to claim the regional title and advance to the Division II Championship at Cary, N.C., May 23-30.
