The Moccasins' Max Russell has earned another postseason award, this one from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The sophomore lefthander is an honorable mention selection for the NCBWA Division II All-America Team. Previously Russell and Daniel Tillman had received recognition on the NCBWA All-South Region Team, with Russell earning first-team recognition and Tillman receiving second-team recognition. Russell also was a first-team All-South Region pick by the American Baseball Coaches Association, as well as a first-team All-Sunshine State Conference choice.
Russell led the Moccasin pitching staff with a 10-2 record and a 3.71 ERA. He also led the staff in innings pitched (104.1) and strikeouts (114). His 10 wins were the most by a Moccasin pitcher since Ryan Thompson posted 11 wins in 2003 and his strikeouts were the most since John Connally Barnett struck out 118 in 2002.
The Moccasins finished the season with a 41-16 record, were runners-up in the Sunshine State Conference and the NCAA Division II South Regional, and were ranked eighth in the final Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Coaches Poll.
