NCBWA and CCA Honor Mocs on All-South Teams

Two baseball postseason teams were released on Thursday with a trio of Mocs picking up All-South honors. Logan Browning and Sam Machonis were named to the first-team All-South squad by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) while Mitch Reeves was a second-team selection. Machonis was also named a first-team All-South member by the Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) while Browning was a second-team honoree.

The same trio was honored as All-Sunshine State Conference first-team selections earlier this week.

The NCBWA team named Browning as its first-team utility player while Machonis was named to the first-team outfield and Reeves was voted as the second-team third baseman. The CCA All-South Team, which is voted upon by sports information directors, named Machonis as a first-team outfielder while Browning was the second-team utility (pitcher) selection.

Browning, a sophomore from Lakeland, made the first-team as a utility player. The Lakeand Christian School graduate batted .319 on the season was one of three Moccasins to drive in 39 runs. He was third on the team with 52 runs scored, nine homers, 108 total bases, and a .565 slugging percentage. Browning had 20 games with two more hits and had 10 multi-RBI games. As a pitcher, the lefthander posted a 5-3 record and a 6.20 ERA, striking out 57 batters in 65.1 innings pitched. Browning played 27 games in right field, made 15 starts as the pitcher/designated hitter, and was the team's DH in six other games.

Machonis, a senior from Tampa, was a first-team outfielder after earning second-team honors in 2015. This season, he led the Moccasins in 10 offensive categories, including batting average (.388), runs scored (59), hits (80), homers (13), RBI (52), tiotal bases (136), slugging percentage (.660), on-base percentage (.471) and stolen bases (21). Defensively, he was charged with just one error in 112 total chances for a .991 fielding percentage. His 80 base hits is second most in the SSC while his 13 homers and 59 runs scored were fifth most. Machonis also ranked third with 21 stolen bases and fourth with 136 total bases. On the season, Machonis had 24 multi-hit games and 15 games with two or more RBI.

Reeves, a junior from Winter Springs, was named the second-team third baseman. He was second on the Moccasins with a .364 batting average, 54 runs scored, 11 homers, 48 RBI, 118 total bases, and a .596 slugging percentage, while finishing third with a .432 on-base percentage. He led Florida Southern with a .379 batting average in the 24 Sunshine State Conference games and tied Machonis with 28 runs scored in league action. Reeves tied Machonis for the team lead with 24 games with two or more hits and led the team with 16 multi-RBI contests. Defensively, he started 48 of the Mocs' 49 games at third base and recorded 21 putouts and 92 assists for a .894 fielding percentage.

Lynn's John Silviano, the 2016 SSC Player of the Year, was similiarly honored by the NCBWA and CCA while Tre Hobbs of Delta State was voted as the Pitcher of the Year on both teams. Silviano, a sophomore catcher, set a conference record with 30 homers, one shy of the NCAA record for any Division. Silviano also led the league with a .958 slugging perentage, 69 runs scored, and 74 RBI. Hobbs leads the NCAA Division II with 12 wins and is fourth in the country with eight complete games. He is 12-1 with a 3.07 ERA for the Statesmen.
