TEMPE, AZ - For the second straight week, Florida Southern is ranked second in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine's NCAA Division II poll. The Moccasins were ranked third in the first five regular-season polls before moving up to number two last week.
Florida Southern, which is on a 10-game win streak following a three-game sweep of Florida Tech over the weekend, stands at 32-4-1 on the season which is the best record at this point in the season since the 1994 team posted a 34-3 mark through the first 37 games.
The Moccasins are tied with Nova Southeastern for second place in the conference in the loss column (15-3), but the Sharks have played one more series and are 18-3 in the SSC. Tampa tops the league with a 20-1 mark.
Azusa Pacific is ranked number one for a fourth consecutive week and sports a 32-3 record. Behind the Moccasins in the top five are North Greenville (35-6), Tampa (31-5), and Delta State (31-5). The top five teams remain unchanged from last week's poll.
Florida Southern is tied for the Sunshine State Conference lead with a .328 batting average and sits atop the conference with 355 runs scored, 439 hits, 14 triples, and 59 home runs.
Logan Browning leads the league with a .464 batting average and is second with a .530 on-base percentage. Hayden Marze tops the SSC with 17 home runs, 53 runs batted in, and a .798 slugging percentage.
On the mound, reliever J.T. Hintzen, last week's NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week, has a conference-best nine wins (against no losses) while Browning, who was named the SSC Pitcher of the Week today, is tied for third with a 7-0 record. Closer Leo Rodriguez also is a league-leader with seven saves.
The Moccasins travel to West Palm Beach this weekend for three games at Palm Beach Atlantic, April 20-22.
