LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College esports Rocket League team is set for its first match since earning the No. 1 seed for Bracket D of the NACE Fall Championship tonight as they take on Hood College at 8 p.m. The No. 1 Moccasins (7-3) will play the No. 9 Blazers (5-5) in a best-of-five series broadcasted on the program's Twitch channel at FSCMocs.com/twitch, with the winner advancing to face the winner of No. 4 Brescia and No. 4 UT Dallas B on Monday, Nov. 4.
"We are moving forward with a one-match-at-a-time mindset," head coach Nate Carson said. "We have to win three series in order to secure a match against the bracket winner of group A and a shot at DreamHack, but we need to keep focused on the first game ahead of us. We had some rough days in the middle of the main season that landed on game days and we have to keep healthy, practiced, and focused so that game days are the days that we are on fire and ready to win."
The Moccasins are coming off of a difficult week five of the regular season that saw them drop two 3-0 contests to fellow No. 1 seeds Missouri (10-0) and Boise State Broncos (8-2). UT Dallas A joins the Mocs and their foes as the other No. 1 seed in the tournament, of which the opening round finished on Monday. The Moccasins earned a bye and will have their first action since week five tonight.
The tournament will continue with bracket semifinal matches on Monday, Nov. 4, followed by the bracket finals and overall semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 7. The winners of the semifinal matches on Nov. 7 will meet for an in-person final at DreamHack Atlanta on Nov. 17.
