MELBOURNE, FL - After helping lead Florida Southern College men's basketball to a 19-9 regular-season record, including a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents and a third-place finish in the Sunshine State Conference regular-season standings, junior Jonathan Lawton and sophomore Brett Hanson were named as first and second-team all-SSC selections, respectively, when the conference announced its annual men's basketball awards on Thursday. Lawton was also named to the all-newcomer team.

Lawton currently ranks third in the SSC and 25th nationally in scoring (21.6 ppg) while leading the conference in made free throws (187) and free-throw attempts (223). He ranks in the top 10 nationally in both free-throw categories and is fourth in the conference in free-throw percentage (83.9). His scoring average is the sixth-best single-season average in school history.

He has scored in double figures in 28-of-29 games this year, including 19 games with at least 20 points and five performances with at least 30 points. The SSC Player of the Week on Feb. 5, Lawton's 187 made free throws are the fifth-best single-season mark in program history, while his 223 attempts are good for eighth. Lawton leads the conference in three-point percentage (40.7).

Hanson, who was named as the SSC Player of the Week (Jan. 1) and Defensive Player of the Week (Nov. 27) ranks second on the team and eighth in the conference in scoring (18.5 ppg) while ranking among the top 10 in the league in 15 other statistical categories. Hanson ranks fourth in the SSC in field-goal percentage (54.4) and scored in double figures in 26-of-29 games this year, including 16 games with 20 or more points.

The duo has helped the Moccasin offense turn from very good to elite-level as Florida Southern ranks 10 nationally in scoring offense (89.0 ppg). The Mocs have scored at least 100 points in 10 different games this year.

Florida Southern will square off with second-seeded Eckerd in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Jenkins Field House. The winner will face either top-seeded Barry or No. 4 Rollins at 1 p.m. on Sunday for the conference tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
