Lawton Selected as FSC Men's Basketball Most Valuable Player

Florida Southern junior guard Jonathan Lawton has been named Most Valuable Player of the men's basketball team as selected by Moccasin head coach Mike Donnelly.

Lawton was named to All-South Region teams by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Division II Conference Commissioners Association in 2017-18 and was selected to the All-Sunshine State Conference first-team and SSC All-Newcomer team.

Lawton finished the year with 709 points, the most by any Moccasin since Derek Flowers scored 727 during the 1990-91 campaign. His scoring total is the fourth-highest in school history, while his scoring average of 22.2 points per game is tied for the fourth-best all time and is the best since Flowers (22.7) in 1990-91.

Lawton scored in double figures in 31 of 32 games this past season while posting 20 or more points in 22 games. He scored at least 30 points five times this year and also dished out 100 assists and pulled down 137 rebounds.

The Moccasins finished the season with a 21-11 record and finished third in the SSC with a 13-7 league record. Florida Southern finished as semifinalists in both the SSC and NCAA South Region Tournaments.
