Dambreville Named SSC Player of the Week

MELBOURNE, Fla. - After scoring a career-high 28 points in a win over New Haven and pouring in 23 in an upset of No. 7 Valdosta State, Florida Southern College men's basketball sophomore E.J. Dambreville has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Dambreville averaged 25.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as the Moccasins went 2-0 at the Terrace Hotel Thanksgiving Classic. In Friday's win over New Haven (84-56) Dambreville went 11-of-16 from the floor, including 6-of-11 from the three-point line, and pulled down eight rebounds to go along with one assist and a steal. He scored 18 points in the first half alone, going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes of action.

In Saturday's game against Valdosta State, Dambreville went 9-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. In addition to his 23 points, he also pulled down 11 rebounds with four assists, two blocks, and a steal. The Mocs' win over the Blazers marked the highest-ranked non-conference opponent that Southern has defeated since knocking off No. 3 Bellarmine in the semifinals of the 2015 NCAA Division II Tournament en route to a national title.

Dambreville's Player of the Week selection is the first of his career and makes him the second Moccasin to win the award this year (Brett Hanson - Nov. 11). Florida Southern has had 68 SSC Player of the Week selections since the award first debuted during the 1990-91 season. Dambreville's Player of the Week honor is the ninth under head coach Mike Donnelly and just the 10th for a sophomore.

This season, Dambreville is averaging 16.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. He has scored in double figures in six of the team's first seven games and is currently third on the team in scoring (16.6 ppg), rebounds (7.1 rpg), and shooting percentage (48.4).

Florida Southern returns to Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Leo at 7:30 p.m. before facing Lindenwood at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Mocs close out the calendar year at home against Lynn (Dec. 14), Northwood (Dec. 20), and American International (Dec. 21).
