Mocs Make Second-Round Charge, Finish 4th At Clayton State Tournament

HAMPTON, Ga. - The Moccasins improved their first-day score by 10 strokes Tuesday and vaulted from a tie for 10th to finish fourth at the rain-shortened State Farm-Laker Invitational hosted by Clayton State and held here at Crystal Lake.

After rain washed out Monday's scheduled second round, the tournament was reduced from 54 holes to 36.

The Moccasins' second round score of 282 was the second-best round of the day, topped only by team champion Newberry's 278. Newberry's final team score of 562 was four strokes better than the 566 by first-round co-leader and runner-up Georgia College and State. Barry was third at 567 and the Moccasins were fourth at 574 in the 16-team field.

Only one stroke separated the Moccasins' top four golfers. Jude Eustaquio was FSC's top finisher, coming in at 143 to tie for 16th. Matt Stauch, Tobin Dunigan and Danny Evelyn all were one stroke back at 144 in a tie for 18th. Evelyn had the Moccasins' best round of the day with a four-under-par 68, while Stauch shot a 69. Dunigan, a red-shirt freshman playing in his first FSC tournament, shot a second straight round of even-par 72. Lee White finished at 148 in a tie for 45th.

Barry's Chris Carlin was the individual winner with an 11-under-par 133.

FSC's next tournament will be the Columbus College Invitational Oct. 5-6 in Columbus, Ga.
