PONTE VEDRA - It was a win for Matt Stauch and a runner-up finish for the Moccasins at the Queens (N.C.) Invitational here at TPC Sawgrass on Tuesday.
Stauch shot a 67 Tuesday, the best round of the tournament, matching his personal career-best round, that brought him from a tie for 15th starting the day to the medalist spot and a one-stroke win over Flagler's Chris Bray. Stauch finished at four-under-par 140 to Bray's 141. It was the 12th top ten finish of Stauch's career and second tournament win.Â He shot back-to-back rounds of 67 in last year's USF Ron Smith Invitational and tied for first.
The Moccasins' team score of 280 for Tuesday's final round also was the best of the tournament. Combined with Monday's 301, the Moccasins finished at 581, five strokes behind first-round leader Barton, which shot a second straight round of 288 to finish at 576 in the 17-team field. The Moccasins were the only Sunshine State Conference team in the tournament.
The Moccasins were able to count nothing worse than a 72 in Tuesday's second round. Jude Eustaquio shot a 70 to finish at 148 in a tie for 26th.Â Â Danny Evelyn shot a 71 that gave him a final score of 150 tied for 32nd. Tobin Dunigan had a 72 in the final round and tied for 45th. Shelton Smith, who had FSC's best round on Monday with a 71, finished at 149 in a tie for 28th.
The Moccasins complete their fall season at the Rollins Invitational Oct. 26-27.
