WILSON, N.C. - The Moccasins have some work to do if they hope for qualify for the NCAA Division II Golf Championship. After Monday's first round of the South/Southeast Super Regional here at the Wilson Country Club, the Moccasins are tied for eighth.
The top five teams will qualify for the Division II championship tournament May 18-21 at Noblesville, Ind.
The Moccasins shot an eight-over-par 292 in Monday's opening round that has them tied with Columbus State and Georgia College & State. Lander, with a two-under-par team score of 282, is the team leader. Barry is one stroke back at 283, followed by Nova Southeastern at 285, Saint Leo at 288 and Lynn at 289 to round out the top five.
Jude Eustaquio had the Moccasins' top round of the day, shooting an even-par 71 that has him tied for 11th. Danny Evelyn and Peter Creighton eachÂ shot a 73 and they are tied for 37th. Matt Stauch and Shelton Smith each came in with a round of 75 to put them in a tie for 62nd. Valdosta State's Chelsey Gunn is the first-round individual leader after shooting a four-under-par 67.
Round two of the tournament will be played Tuesday, with the final round set for Wednesday.
In addition to the top five teams, the top two individuals not on those five teams also will qualify for the Division II championship.
