Mocs Jump Two Spots to Eighth in Latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches' Poll

NORMAN, Okla. - Thanks to a third place finish as a team at the 2015 Sunshine State Conference Men's Golf Championships, Florida Southern jumped two spots to eighth in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches' Poll sponsored by the Golf Coaches Association of America that was released Friday afternoon.

In the fourth poll of the spring season, the Moccasins are one of seven SSC schools mentioned in the latest poll voted on by Division II coaches, including being one of six league schools ranked.

FSC earned 262 points in the latest poll to sit 10 points in front of No. 9 Saint Leo (252 points) and 28 points behind No. 7, Cal State-Monterey Bay (290 points). 

Nova Southeastern, who finished runner-up at this year's SSC Championships, continues to sit atop the latest poll as the Sharks, who have ranked No. 1 for six straight rankings, earned 15 of 16 first place votes and 399 points. Lynn, who won this year's SSC Championship by nine strokes over NSU, moved up one spot to No. 2 as the Fighting Knights earned the other first place vote and 371 points. USC-Aiken (368 points) fell one spot to No. 3, while Barry (330 points) remained fourth and Flagler (321 points) jumped one spot to No. 5.

Chico State (317 points) is sixth, while following CSUMB, FSC and SLU in the poll is West Georgia (234 points), as the Wolves are ranked 10th this week.

West Florida (215 points), who won its third straight Gulf South Conference title earlier this week, remains at No. 11, while Central Missouri (193 points) jumps two spots to No. 12 and North Alabama (178 points) is 13th. Simon Fraser (168 points) falls two spots to No. 14, Columbus State (143 points) is 15th and Western New Mexico (129 points) jumps five spots to No. 16. Florida Tech (117 points) jumps one spot to No. 17, while Central Oklahoma (116 points) is 18th, Georgia Southwestern (112 points) falls two spots to No. 19 and Dixie State (61 points) jumps two spots to No. 20.

The final five of the poll begins with Missouri-St. Louis (55 points) at No. 21, while Wingate (49 points) jumps one spot to No. 22 and Cameron (45 points) moves into the rankings at No. 23. Erskine (42 points) is 24th and North Greenville (39 points) falls six spots to No. 25. 

Rollins (9 votes) was the lone SSC team to receive votes in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches' Poll.

FSC is set to return to the course on May 4-6 as they are expected to earn an at-large berth into this year's NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, which will be held at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City. The NCAA will unveil the field for this year's NCAA Division II Men's Golf Tournament on Friday, April 24 online at www.ncaa.com.
