NORMAN, Okla. - Florida Southern College men's golf has been ranked No. 4 in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Preseason Coaches Poll, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced. The Moccasins, who were one of three teams to receive a first-place vote in the poll, were also ranked No. 4 to begin last season.
The Mocs have now been ranked in the top five of the GCAA Preseason Coaches Poll in five-straight seasons, and are coming off a national semifinal appearance a year ago when Michael VanDerLaan won the individual national championship. Florida Southern is one of five Sunshine State Conference schools to earn a spot in the top 10 of this year's preseason coaches poll.
Lynn, last year's national champion, was picked to repeate with 459 points and 14 first-place votes, while Barry came in a close second with 448 points and five first-place votes. West Florida, Florida Southern, and Lincoln Memorial rounded out the top five, while Nova Southeastern, Chico State, Florida Tech, Western Washington, and St. Mary's (Texas) came in at spots 6-10.
