Seven Men's Lacrosse Student-Athletes Earn All-SSC Honors

MELBOURNE, FL - Seven Florida Southern College men's lacrosse student-athletes have earned All-Sunshine State Conference honors, announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon. Florida Southern landed four on the second team as Lucas Claude earned his second all-SSC honors, Dalton Simpson, Kevin Dyer and Kevin Horwitz earned their first all-SSC honors. Florida Southern collected two of the four honorable mention spots with Austen Lison at LSM and Alex Dagen on defense. In addition to his second team honors, Horwitz was named to the all-SSC Freshman team along with teammate Max Burgio

The Moccasins leading scorer, Claude earned his second all-SSC honors as he was named All-SSC first team in 2016. Claude started in all 15 games for Florida Southern, finished the season as the Mocs leader in goals (42) and points (53). His most impressive moment this season was when he turned in a nine-goal performance in a win at home against Alabama-Huntsville. In addition to a five-goal game against Palm Beach Atlantic, he was named SSC Player of the week. His 14 goals on the week were the most of any SSC Men's lacrosse player. He also was named to the USILA National Team of the Week on March 28 and April 3.

Simpson played a key role off the bench for the Mocs' offense as he recorded 16 goals and 17 assists. He ranked third among Florida Southern players with 33 points and recorded three caused turnovers including one that led directly to a goal against Tampa.

Dyer was one of two Moccasins to record more than 20 goals as he found the back of the net 30 times and recorded 10 assists. He recorded at least one goal in all but one game this season. In the win over Emmanuel, he recorded six goals and three assists. Dyer helped the Mocs begin a four-game win streak as he scored five times in Florida Southern's upset win over No. 4 Colorado-Mesa.

Horwitz found his name on two teams as he was named to the all-SSC second team and all-SSC freshman team. He was a force to be reckoned with as he led the Mocs with 150 faceoff wins in 275 tries, good for fourth in the SSC ranks. He won 10 or more faceoffs in nine games with Florida Southern winning six of the nine games. Horwitz ranked second with 70 ground balls, while causing two turnovers.

The Mocs secured two of the four honorable mentions as Austen Lison and Alex Dagen earned the honors. Lison picked up a team-high 81 groundballs and caused 30 turnovers. He also found the back of the net twice and recorded four assists. Dagen also led the Mocs' defense as he was second with 24 caused turnovers and picked up 35 groundballs.

Burgio contributed to the Mocs success this year as the freshman picked up 12 groundballs and caused eight turnovers while starting in 14 of 15 games played. His best outing was in the Moccasins' upset win over No. 4 Colorado-Mesa as he picked up four groundballs and caused three turnovers.

Florida Southern continued its streak of all-freshman accolades as last year, Dyer and Adam Utter earned the honors bringing the Mocs total to 13 since the SSC began sponsoring men's lacrosse in 2014.
