MELBOURNE – Freshman Dean McGregor has been named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for the week ending Oct.4. It is the second straight week a Moccasin runner has been so honored as Jose Perez earned the recognition last week.
McGregor was the Moccasins' top finisher at the FSU Invitational, crossing the finish line in 11th place with a time of 26:09.2 over the 8,000 meter course at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. His 11th place finish, fourth among those runners attached to teams, helped lead Florida Southern to a second place finish among the 12 non-Division I teams in the meet. His time was also tops among any of the runners from SSC school in the meet, including Florida Tech and Saint Leo.
A graduate of Fort Myers High School, McGregor has been the Moccasins' top finisher in two of the three meets so far this season, placing eighth at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational and 11th at the FSU meet. In his other race, he placed second (fourth overall) to his teammate, Jose Perez, who won the Moccasin Invitational.
Florida Southern will take the week off being returning to action Oct. 16 at the USF Invitational at The Claw, the University of South Florida's golf course in Tampa.
