NEW ORLEANS – Despite finishing second at the FSU Invitational on Friday, the men's cross country remain ranked sixth in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Region Poll released Tuesday.
The men, which were ranked sixth in last week's poll, came in second out of 12 teams at the FSU Invitational Friday at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. FSC, which had won the meet in 2013 and 2014, trailed first-place Alabama-Huntsville by 12 points. Florida Southern freshman Dean McGregor finished 11th while Jose Perez placed 13th for the Moccasins. McGregor earned the Moccasins' second straight SSC Male Runner-of-the-Week honors after finishing the 8K race with a 26:09.2 time.
Saint Leo, which finished seventh at the FSU meet, moved up one spot to leap over Lee (TN) for the top spot in the poll. Lee falls to second, followed by Alabama-Huntsville, West Alabama, and Nova Southeastern.
The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region polls are released every week during the regular season. The poll ranks the Top 10 men's and women's cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions. Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in their own region with input from the coaches.
