TAMPA – Freshman Brogan Armand made his Florida Southern debut a memorable one by taking fifth place and leading the Moccasins to a first-place finish at the USF Invitational here Friday at The Claw, the University of South Florida's golf couse.
Armand completed the 8,000 meter course in 28:09.6 as the Moccasins took first place among three non-Division I teams, finishing with 26 points to outdistance Florida College (39 points) and Rollins (64 points).
Christian Beuchemin placed seventh with a time of 28:27.3 while Tyler Simmons was eighth at 28:45.3 and Pedro Cuervo ninth with a 29:15.6 time. Oswaldo Zapata was next to finish for Florida Southern taking 11th place with a 32:14.1 time. Jesse Hudson rounded out the squad, placing 13th with a 31:36.7 time.
With the championship meet of the Sunshine State Conference taking place next Saturday, head coach Ben Martucci opted to rest his top runners.
The SSC Meet is Oct. 24 at Lakeland's Holloway Park and Nature Preserve. FSC hosted the Moccasin Invitational on the same course in September, taking third place.
