NEW ORLEANS – Moccasin freshman runner Dean McGregor has been recognized as a member of the All-South Region team as announced today by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
McGregor, a graduate of Fort Myers High School, finished in 13th place at the NCAA South Region Championship held Saturday at The Abbey Golf Course in Saint Leo. The Sunshine State Conference Freshman of Year completed the 10,000-meter course in a time of 33:41.12 to be the first Moccasin across the finish line.
McGregor was either the first or second finisher for Florida Southern in each of the five races he participated this season. He posted his best 8K time at his first meet–the UF Mountain Dew Invitational finished 8th with a 25:57.58 time and recorded his second fastest time at the FSC Invitational, coming in 11th with a 26:02.2 time. In both races, he was the top Moccasin finisher.
At the FSC Invitational at Lakeland's Hollowark Park, McGregor was fourth overall with a 27:17.3 time and ran the same course later at the Sunshine State Conference Championship, taking 16th place with a 26:16.1 time.
A total of 198 male runners from 142 schools earned the distinction by finishing among the top 25 individual finishers at one of the eight regional sites across the country.
