NEW ORLEANS, La. - Freshman Dean McGregor and junior Cody Van Natter have been named to the NCAA Division II All-Academic Team as selected by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America. In addition, the men's country team was named a 2015 Scholar Team.
McGregor and Van Natter are the first Moccasins to be named All-Academic since the 2013 season. In all, 19 Florida Southern men's cross country runners have been honored by the USTFCCCA since 2005.
In order for an individual to earn All-Academic honors, he must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater and finished in the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at their regional championship.
McGregor, a biology major from Fort Myers, Fla., was voted the Sunshine State Conference Freshman Runner of the Year in the fall and was also named to the USTFCCCA All-South Region team. He placed 16th at the SSC Championships with a time of 26:16.1 over the 8K course, but rebounded with a 13th place finish at the NCAA South Regional, completing the 10K course with a 33:31.12 time.
Van Natter, a human movement and performance major from Spring Hill, Fla., was 22nd at the SSC meet with a time of 26:46.7 and finished 59th at the NCAA South Regional meet with a time of 37:44.65 over the 10K course.
An All-Academic Team must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for the award.
FSC, which had a cumulative team GPA of 3.01, was one of four men's teams that was selected an All-Academic Team honoree from the SSC as the Mocs were joined by Florida Tech, Nova Southeastern, and Saint Leo. Overall, 104 men's teams were so honored. Individually, 14 runners from SSC schools were among the 226 men named to the All-Academic Team.
