LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - It was a couple of days late, but it was a Happy Fourth for the Florida Southern men's cross country team as sophomore Mason Jones finished in fourth place to lead the Moccasins to a fourth-place finish at the Disney Cross Country Classic Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Jones, the reigning Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week, turned in a time of 25:25.04 to finish behind three runners from Division I Florida A&M University. His time of 25:25.04 was the second fastest 8K of Jones' collegiate career and marks the fourth time in as many races this season that the Titusville, Florida native has led the Moccasins.
Florida Southern totaled 91 points, just three points behind fellow SSC member, Saint Leo, which took third place with 88 points. FAMU won the event with 21 points followed by Malone University at 42 points. Sixteen teams and 139 runners comprised the field in this year's event.
Josh Wagner was the second Moccasin to finish, coming in 11th place with a 25:58.25 time, which is the second fastest 8K of his FSC career. Warran Grajalez placed 23rd at 26:50.07 while Dean McGregor (27:03.48) and Mitchell Kozik (27:03.48) finished back-to-back in 29th and 30th place, respectively. Rounding out the Mocs' top five was Michael Balseca in 40th place at 27:40.27. Kozik and Balseca posted personal records on the day.
