Four Moccasins Named to All-SSC Squads

MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern's Mason Jones, Josh Wagner, and Dean McGregor have been selected to the All-Sunshine State Conference first-team while Mitchell Kozik was named to the All-SSC second-team as announced today by the league office. Runners that placed 1st to 7th in the SSC Championship were selected to the first-team while runners finishing in 8th to 14th place were named to the All-SSC second-team.

This is the third year McGregor has been named to the All-SSC squad while Jones is making his second appearance.

Jones placed fourth at the 2018 SSC Championship with a time of 25:58.20 while Wagner was close behind, placing sixth with a 26:03.93 mark. Jones and Wagner are both in their sophomore seasons. McGregor, a senior, placed seventh at 26:05.59 while sophomore Mitchell Kozik took 13th place with a 26:22.04 time.

Jones, who was the SSC Freshman of the Year last season, has been the top Moccasin in each of Florida Southern's six meets this season, placing in the top five overall in each race. He has posted the three fastest 8K times for the Moccasins this season, turning in a 24:36 at the Queens City Invitational on Sept. 28 and had a 25:14.3 at the USC Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational. His third best time came at the Disney Classic with he had a 25:05.04 to finish fourth overall.

Wagner has had three of FSC's top 10 fastest 8K times this season, starting first with a 25:28 at the Queens City Meet for the fifth best time, followed by a 25:58.25 (8th) at the Disney Classic, and 26:03.93 (9th) at the SSC Championships.

McGregor, who was the 2015 SSC Freshman of the Year, owns two of the Mocs' top 10 8K marks in 2018 with a 25:43 at the Queens City Invitational for the sixth best time and a 26:05.59 at the SSC Meet for the 10th best. His third top time was a 26:16.4 at the USC Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational.

Kozik is coming off his best showing of the year at the SSC Championship and had a 26:42.9 at the USC Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational. He recorded a 27:03.57 at the Disney Classic.

The SSC also announced its top honors with Embry-Riddle sweeping the three awards. Shaun Bullock was named the Runner of the Year while Ryan Szklany was the Freshman of the Year. The Eagles' Mike Rosalino was voted the SSC Coach of the Year. These honors were chosen in a vote among the league head coaches.

The Moccasin season continues this Saturday at the NCAA Division II South Region Championship which will be held at Lakeland's Holloway Park and Nature Preserve. The 10K men's race will start at 7:30 a.m. with the women's 6K to follow at 8:45 a.m.
