NEW ORLEANS - Sophomores Mason Jones and Josh Wagner have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Cross Country All-Region Team. The duo earned a spot on the team by virtue of their top-25 finishes at the recent NCAA South Region Championship.
Jones finished fifth at the regional meet with a time 31:58.63 over the 10K course at Lakeland's Holloway Park and Nature Preserve. His time is the second best 10K mark for any Moccasin in an NCAA regional and is the fastest since Eric Walker's record-setting time of 31:47 at the 2006 regional meet. Overall, Jones' mark in the fourth fastest 10 in Florida Southern history. His fifth place finish is the highest for any Moccasin since Bobby Ormsby came in third at the 2014 regional championship. Wagner took 15th place for Florida Southern with a 32:40.66 time.
The duo helped lead Florida Southern to a third-place showing at the regional, earning the Moccasins a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship on Dec. 1 at the Bob O'Conner Golf Course at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, PA.
A total of 200 runners from 91 different men's programs earned the distinction of All-Region by finishing among the top-25 runners at one of the eight regional sites this past weekend.
