LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College men's and women's cross country head coaches Matt Levassiur (men) and Stephanie Bylander (women) released their team's schedules ahead of the 2019 season on Wednesday. Both squads will race at the same five meets, three in September and two in October, and will host the NCAA South Region Championships in November.
The season will begin in Lakeland with the fifth-annual Holloway Park Preseason Festival (Sept. 7) before heading to Gainesville, Fla. for the UF Mountain Dew Invite (Sept. 14). The Moccasins will end the month in Sacramento, Calif. at the Capital Cross Challenge (Sept. 28). The squads will return to Florida for the USF Bulls Invite (Oct. 5) before heading to Charlotte, N.C. for the Royals Cross Country Challenge (Oct. 11).
The Sunshine State Conference Championships (Oct. 26) will be hosted by Lynn in Boca Raton, Fla. Florida Southern will be hosting the NCAA South Region Championships for the third-straight year at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Fla. on Nov. 9, where the teams will hope to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships (Nov. 23) in Sacramento, Calif.
Florida Southern's men's squad will be looking for a repeat trip to the NCAA Division II Championships, where it finished in 30th place last year after a third-place finish at the South Region Championships. Mason Jones and Josh Wagner will return to the squad as juniors this year after earning USTFCCCA all-region honors last fall. Jones led the team last season with six top-five finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the SSC Championships and a fifth-place finish at the South Region Championships.
The women's squad looks to join the men at the NCAA Division II Championships this year after finishing fourth at South Region Championships last fall. Addison Cantor and Hannah Flemming will return as juniors this fall after earning USTFCCCA all-region honors last fall. Flemming returns after two top-five finishes last season including a third-place finish at the SSC Championships and an 11th place finish at the South Region Championships. Cantor capped off last year with two fourth-place finishes at Disney Cross Country Classic and the SSC Championships, and a 10th place finish at the South Region Championships.
