Ehlers Named 2019 MVP

LAKELAND, Fla. - Throughout the month of July, Florida Southern College Athletics will release its list of team MVPs for the 2018-19 season. Each MVP was selected by the team's head coach, and the list includes some of the top student-athletes in the country. MVPs will be revealed each weekday during the month at 10 a.m., and a list of their scheduled release dates can be found below.

Florida Southern Softball head coach Chris Bellotto named senior pitcher Aubrey Ehlers as the 2019 team MVP. The Dunedin, Fla. native started 27 games in the circle for the Mocs and appeared in 34 games on the season. She won a team-high 13 games, including 10 complete games. Her 2.36 ERA was 14th in the SSC. Ehlers opened the season with a seven-inning performance against Ursuline, where she limited the Arrows to a pair of runs on just three hits while striking out two and walking two. She closed out February with an impressive three-game winning streak where she defeated Tampa (3-1), Kentucky Wesleyan (3-0), and Davenport (5-4). During the winning streak she went 2-0 with a save in 17.0 innings pitched, two runs, one earned run, struck out six and walked just two batters while posting an impressive 0.39 ERA. In eight innings pitched at Tampa, she limited a 10-2 Spartans team to a single run on nine hits to hand them just their third loss on the young season.   

Ehlers struck out a season-high six batter twice, the first came in a neutral site win over St. Michael's where she tossed four innings giving up two hits including a home run. The second was in a 1-0 loss against Saint Leo in which she gave up eight hits, gave up an unearned run in nine innings pitched. Ehlers is the first pitcher to win the team MVP honors since Brandi Jones in 2015.
