Lady Mocs Fall to Lynn, 97-96, In Triple Overtime

BOCA RATON - The Lady Mocs and Lynn battled through three overtimes here Saturday night before the Fighting Knights finally prevailed 97-96.

Lynn's Chelsea Patterson scored the game-winning basket, a three-pointer, with 16 seconds left after the Moccasins had taken a 96-94 lead on Tanja Speaker's basket with 24 seconds to go. Patterson's basket capped a triple-double performance, as she had 27 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists for the Knights.

The loss, their fourth in the last five games, dropped the Moccasins' record to 17-7, 7-6 in the Sunshine State Conference. Lynn improved to 14-9, 6-7 in the SSC.

After Michaela Hawley's basket gave the Moccasins a 65-63 lead with 44 seconds left in regulation, Lynn tied it on a basket by Madeleine Doyle with 26 seconds to go. FSC had a chance to win it on the final shot, but Hawley missed a layup with two seconds left.

Nicolle DiRaimo's three-pointer with 23 seconds left in the first overtime tied the game at 72-72. Again the Mocs had a chance to win with the final shot, but Chelsea Johnson's three pointer at the buzzer was no good.

Johnson almost had the game-winner in the second overtime, as she hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds left to put the Moccasins up 83-82. Chelsea Patterson was fouled with five seconds to go, however, and made one of two free throws to tie the game and force the third overtime.

After Patterson scored to put the Knights ahead, the Moccasins had one final chance, but a shot by Megan Dzikas with four seconds left was no good.

The Moccasins had three players with over 20 points in the game. Johnson led with 23. Hawley and DiRaimo each posted a double-double - Hawley with 22 points and 10 rebounds; DiRaimo with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Speaker also recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Dzikas added 15 points.

In addition to the triple-double effort by Patterson, Lynn got 23 points and nine rebounds off the bench from Quanisha Dixon.

The Moccasins play Saint Leo Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
