MELBOURNE, FL - After helping Florida Southern College women's basketball clinch its second-straight Sunshine State Conference regular-season title, Camille Giardina has been named as the SSC Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Giardina averaged 22.5 points per game as the Moccasins defeated Eckerd (69-56) and Barry (85-60) to clinch the top spot in the SSC Tournament for the second year in a row. She shot 53.1 percent (17-of-32) and was 4-of-9 from long range in the two wins. Giardina scored 24 points against Eckerd and followed that up with 21 points in the victory over Barry. She is now just 18 points away from moving into sixth in school history in scoring.
She was named as the SSC Player of the Week earlier this year (Dec. 17) and has earned the award a total of four times in her career. This year's SSC regular-season title is the 14th in school history and marks the sixth time that the Mocs have won the conference title in back-to-back years.
Florida Southern heads to Saint Leo on Feb. 27 and wraps up the regular season at home against Rollins on March 2. The Mocs have locked up the top seed in the SSC Tournament and will host a first-round game on March 6 at a time to be announced. Southern is also still in the mix to host the NCAA South Regional after being ranked in the No. 2 spot when the first regional rankings were released last week.
