Gartrell Grabs Second at Golfweek DII Invitational; Mocs Finish Third

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Amanda Gartrell capped off a solid performance for Florida Southern College women's golf at the Golfweek DII Invitational by firing a +2 (74) in the final round of action on Tuesday to take second as an individual at the Las Colinas Course at Mission Inn Resort & Club. Florida Southern finished third as a team after recording a +18 (306) in the final round, dropping two spots from first after Monday's opening 18 holes.

Gartrell, who shot an even-par 72 on Monday, tallied one birdie and three bogies on Tuesday but moved up one spot in the final individual rankings after finishing Monday's round in a third-place tie. She has now finished second in two of three tournaments this fall, and her +2 (72-74-146) was her best two-round performance since shooting an even 144 (73-71) at last year's Saint Leo Invitational.

Freshman phenom Lacey Tucker finished tied for fifth with a +5 (72-77-149) and Loren Perez tied for 11th with a +6 (72-78-150). Shelby Lewis carded a +13 (80-77-157) to shave three strokes off her total from Monday and move up eight spots to 28th. Nathalie Svensson rounded out the Moccasin lineup by tying for 43rd at +19 (78-85-163).

As a squad, Southern tallied a tournament 112 pars and was third among the 12 teams in the field with 18 birdies. The Moccasins shot +3 on par-3 holes, second-best in the field, and were +5 on par-5 holes, third among all teams.

The Mocs are back in action next week at the Saint Leo Invitational (Oct. 14-15), before finishing their fall season at the Rollins Legends Invitational (Oct. 28-29).
