MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College women's lacrosse has been selected as the preseason favorite to win its fourth-straight Sunshine State Conference regular-season title, the conference office announced on Tuesday with the release of its preseason coaches poll.
The Moccasins, who have never lost a regular-season conference contest (12-0) since the SSC began sponsoring women's lacrosse in 2015, received 34 points and five of a possible seven first-place votes to finish ahead of Florida Tech (31 points/1 FPV). Rollins, which received the final first-place vote, was picked third, while Tampa, Embry-Riddle, Saint Leo and Palm Beach Atlantic rounded out the poll.
Florida Southern will play six conference contests this year as Embry-Riddle and Palm Beach Atlantic added women's lacrosse for the upcoming season. The Mocs return most of last year's starters, including four all-Americans and the reigning IWLCA Midfielder and SSC Player of the Year (Emily Santoli). The Moccasins are coming off a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II National Championship last year, and open their home slate against defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Adelphi on Feb. 17.
The Mocs are ranked No. 2 in the both the IWLCA and Nike/US Lacrosse preseason polls.
