MELBOURNE, FL - After scoring nine goals and tallying eight assists in three games last week, Florida Southern College women's lacrosse junior Meghan O'Brien has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
O'Brien started off the week with a goal and four assists in a 23-10 win over Young Harris on Monday and followed that up with a pair of four-goal performances in wins over No. 10 Queens (15-6) and No. 9 Mercy (19-12). She also had one assist in the victory over Queens and three more in the win against Mercy. O'Brien was extremely efficient on offense, scoring on nine of 12 total shot attempts, 11 of which came on goal.
The victories helped Florida Southern stay perfect on the season (8-0) while extending its regular-season win streak to 23-straight games, including a 19-game home winning streak. O'Brien's award is the third weekly honor for the Moccasins this season after Dani Bursinger (Player of the Week) and Marina Jozokos (Defensive Player of the Week) were honored after the Moccasins topped then No. 1 Adelphi on Feb. 17.
Florida Southern is back in action on Wednesday against McKendree and opens SSC action on March 24 at Florida Tech.
