GRAND LAKE, CO - Florida Southern College women's lacrosse was named as an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced on Monday. In addition, the Moccasins also had nine individual student-athletes earn IWLCA Division II Academic Honor Roll accolades.
Florida Southern has earned six Academic Honor Squad awards since its inception as a program in 2012, and the nine Honor Roll selections are the second-most in program history. In order to be named as an Academic Honor Squad, a team must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 or higher for the academic year. Individual student-athletes who are at least a junior in terms of athletic eligibility and carry a 3.50 cumulative GPA are eligible to be named to the Academic Honor Roll.
The Mocs were represented on the Honor Roll by Cassie Brown, Micaela Gately, Shannon Gilfedder, Casey O'Brien, Meghan O'Brien, Kelsey O'Connor, Sarah Rheinsmith, Emily Santoli, and Meghan Vadala. A total of 339 teams across NCAA Division I, II, II and the NAIA made the cut as Academic Honor Squads, while 248 student-athletes from 65 institutions earned Division II Academic Honor Roll accolades.
Florida Southern's nine Honor Roll members are the most among any women's lacrosse program in the Sunshine State Conference and are tied for second-most among all NCAA Division II institutions.
