Coaches gave Barry a six-vote edge over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for first place in the poll. The Eagles, who are eligible for the SSC title for the first time this year, received 83 votes and five first place votes. Nova Southeastern finished third with 82 total votes and two first place votes. Rollins College, Saint Leo University, and the University of Tampa finished fourth, fifth, and sixth in the poll, respectively. Saint Leo and Tampa both received a first place vote.

Barry and Saint Leo represent the SSC in the United Soccer Coaches women's preseason national poll. The ranking, announced Thursday, August 3rd, has Nova Southeastern and Rollins receiving votes.

Last season Saint Leo claimed the SSC regular season and postseason tournament championships. In the NCAA tournament, the University of West Florida defeated Nova Southeastern, Saint Leo, and Barry in subsequent rounds. Barry advanced the furthest of all SSC teams, making it to the third round following a win over Rollins.

SSC teams open up with non-conference matches as early as August 31st. The conference schedule begins on September 16th with 10 teams competing.

Florida Southern begins its season the first weekend of September by travelling to North Carolina for a pair of games against Chowan (Friday, Sept. 1) and Mount Olive (Sunday, Sept. 3). Both of those games will be played in Mount Olive. The Moccasins are in their first season under new head coach Paul Lawrence, who came on board last January. He'll have 21 returning veterans and 11 newcomers, a list that includes junior Anna Griessler, the team's leading scorer each of the last two seasons; senior Juliana Guida, the Mocs' MVP in 2016; senior Jess Goedde, a veteran of 35 games and 27 starts; and senior Helena Norrstrom, a 2-year starter in goal who also has 27 career starts.
