Florida Southern Soccer Programs Earn United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for Eighth Consecutive Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Florida Southern College men's and women's soccer have earned their eighth consecutive United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards. United Soccer Coaches have announced the Team Academic Award winners to recognize exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year. A total of 995 college teams (346 men, 649 women) earned the Team Academic Award. Florida Southern was one of 258 schools who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients.

The men's team has now been recognized for the 13th consecutive year, while the women have been on the list for the past eight. Florida Southern was one of six Sunshine State Conference member institutions to earn the award for both teams. On the women's side, the Mocs were one of six SSC teams and on the men's side, the Mocs were one of nine teams.  

Last year's women's squad posted a team GPA of 3.38 (Fall: 3.41, Spring: 3.35). Six members of the 2018 team maintained perfect 4.00 GPAs during the entire year: Erin Cagle, Gaelyn Crowder, Brooke Lowery, Caitlyn Lowery, Caitlin Quaemtps, and Kaitlyn Svopa. Candace Metcalfe, Haley Rounsifer, and Tori Routt all earned a 4.00 GPA during the fall semester, while Anna Griessler, Cali Larson, Noelle Rolfsen, and Amy Volk each posted a 4.00 for the spring semester. 

The 2018 men's soccer team posted a 3.25 GPA (Fall: 3.18, Spring: 3.31). Two members of the 2018 team maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA during the entire year: Eneko Lasheras and Anton Lindbom. Dylan Hansan, Jacob Ling-Vannerus, and Georg Michajlov each earned a fall semester GPA of 4.00. Alberto Diaz, Christoph Gums, Claus Lehland, and Martin Wall posted a 4.00 GPA in the spring semester.

The United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2018-19 academic year.
