Women's Track Sets School Record in 4x800 Relay

DAYTONA BEACH - The 4x800 meter relay team of Kassidy Watkins, Haley Blem, Aleksa Guerra, and Hannah Nelson set a Florida Southern record with a time of 10:10.18 here Saturday at the Division II Florida Collegiate Invitational. The time is just under 9-1/2 seconds faster than the previous record of 10:19.65 set in 2010 by Kassandra Gearlds, Leslie Shaughnessy, Carolyne Kwambai, and Karys Whitehead.

Guerra also placed fifth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:58.20, recording the first sub-5:00 time for a Moccasin runner since Carolyne Kwambai posted a 4:53.57 at the UCF Invitational on March 27, 2010.

Blem and Molly Price were also in the top ten with time of 5:10.70 and 5:12.29, respectively. For Blem, the time was a personal best while Price was competing at this distance for the first in her career.

Also competing in the event were, Hannah Nelson (5:15.10); Jolene Vergauwen (5:21.87); Anna-Brook Opalinski (5:24.55); Sam Clarke (5:24.80); Amanda Slattery (5:26.94); Veronica Jackson (5:30.53); Emily Williams (5:41.87); Emilie Flament (5:43.68); and Ashley Murray (5:46.62). 

Watkins also placed third in the 800-meter with a 2:24.64 time, which is the third fastest time for a FSC runner.

Four Moccasins competed in the 5000 meter: Price (21:23.05); Summer Hepp (21:23.25); Slattery (21:25.41); and Vergauwen (21:25.65).
