A late rally in the fourth set by the Moccasins fell short and Barry won Saturday's Sunshine State Conference match, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 29-27, at Miami Shores.
Trailing 23-19 in set four, the Moccasins scored four straight points to tie the set at 23-23. The teams exchanged the next eight points before Barry produced a service ace and a kill for the final two points to clinch the match.
Barry, which had taken SSC leader Saint Leo to five sets Friday night before losing, improved to 12-10, 3-8 in the SSC. The Mocs fell to 14-14, 5-7 in the SSC.
Julia Borecka and Anne Pietkiewicz each produced a double-double for the Moccasins. Borecka had 14 kills and 14 digs for her 12th double-double of the season, while Pietkiewicz tallied 14 kills and 16 digs for her 10th double-double. Natalie Arvizu came off the bench and collected 10 kills and nine digs and Courtney Johnson added 16 digs.
In the first set, the Moccasins were up 9-7, but Barry scored four straight points and led the rest of the set. Down 15-13 in set two, the Moccasins put together a 5-0 run to gain the lead and went on to take the set. In set three, Barry broke a 15-15 tie with four straight points and led the rest of the set.
The Moccasins play at Eckerd Wednesday at 7 p.m.
