The Moccasins achieved a milestone win in their five-set decision over Shippensburg in the FSC/Terrace Hotel Classic Saturday at Jenkins Field House. The 25-21, 23-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-10 decision was win number 1,000 in the program's 36-year history.
The program began in 1976 and has had just three head coaches in its history. Kathy Benn coached the inaugural season, then Lois Webb coached from 1977 through 2000 and Jill Stephens is in her 11th season. FSC becomes just the fifth program in Division II history to reach the 1,000-victory plateau, joining Nebraska-Kearney, Central Missouri, Minnesota-Duluth and New Haven.
Thirty-three of the past 35 seasons have been on the winning side of the ledger for the Moccasins.
Against Shippensburg, the Moccasins and Lady Raiders traded victories through the first four sets. In the deciding fifth set, the Moccasins broke a 3-3 tie on a kill by Kendall Wilde and led the rest of the set.
Erin Callahan led the Moccasins with 13 kills and three other players also had double figures in kills - Lauren Huber with 10, Kate Stromberg with 11 and Diana Castrillon with 10.
Jill Edwards led Shippensburg with 30 kills.
