Mocs Run Into Another Hot Team, Fall To Christian Brothers In Three Sets

The Moccasins ran into another hot team in Friday's first match at the South Region Crossover at Pensacola, as Christian Brothers posted its eighth straight win with a 25-14, 27-25, 25-23 decision.

The Buccaneers boosted their record to 18-4, while the Moccasins fell to 10-9. 

A pair of 7-0 runs by Christian Brothers did in the Moccasins in the first set. After the Moccasins scored the first point, the Buccaneers ran off seven unanswered points. The Mocs got as close as 12-8, but the Buccaneers' put together their second 7-0 run to take the set out of reach.

The Moccasins were up 18-14 in the second set, but CBU pulled even at 19-19. Neither team led by more than a point and there were ties on each of the next six points that had the match even at 25-25, but the Bucs received kills from Kelly Nolan and Hailey Gillis to close out the set.

In the third set, it was the Moccasins who rallied from a 14-9 deficit to tie it at 15-15. After the Bucs broke a 20-20 tie with three straight points, kills by Erin Callahan and Gabby Fernandez trimmed the deficit to 23-22. The teams exchanged the next two points, then Gillis ended the contest with her 16th kill of the match.

Callahan led the Mocs with nine kills and Anne Pietkiewicz added seven.

The Moccasins play Alabama-Huntsville in their final match of the Crossover at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
