MELBOURNE, FL - After helping Florida Southern College volleyball to three wins including a 3-0 sweep of No. 6 Palm Beach Atlantic, senior Anna Tovo has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Tovo hit .291 while tallying 41 kills, 29 digs, six blocks and three service aces as the Moccasins completed a historic week. The Mocs topped Tampa by a 3-0 score on Oct. 31 for their first road win against the Spartans since 1994, snapped a four-match losing streak to PBA in a win that vaulted FSC to the front of the SSC standings, and extended their winning streak to 13-straight matches - the most since the 2005 squad won 14 in a row.
She put up eight kills, 10 digs and three aces against Tampa before posting 13 kills and eight digs to hand Palm Beach Atlantic just its second loss of the season. Tovo wrapped up the week by posting 20 kills and 13 digs against Rollins. She enters the final stretch of the season just 34 kills shy of moving into fourth place in school history in career kills.
Tovo is the third different Moccasin this season to win a weekly award from the SSC joining Bethany Besancenez, who has been named Setter of the Week three times, and Nicole Mattson, a two-time Offensive Player of the Week.
Florida Southern will face Embry-Riddle on Friday and Florida Tech on Saturday as the third and fourth matches of a five-match homestand. Tovo and the rest of FSC's senior class will be honored on Saturday as part of the annual Senior Day Festivities.
