Women's Cross Country Remains Seventh in Regional Poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Florida Southern women's cross country team remained at number seven in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Regional Poll released Tuesday. The Moccasins, ranked seventh in the preseason poll on Aug. 29, stayed steady after a third-place finish at the Holloway Park Preseason Festival on Sept. 2.

Florida Southern was led at the Festival by sophomore Hannah Nelson who took 16th place in the women's 3K race with a time of 11:29.05. Allison Wright, the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, took 18th place while junior Aleksa Guerra was 22nd.

The top three teams remain the same as in the Aug. 29 preseason poll as Saint Leo tops the poll followed by Lee and Montevallo. Closing out the top five are Tampa and Embry-Riddle. Rounding out the next five are Alabama-Huntsville, FSC, Christian Brothers, Union, and West Alabama.

Florida Southern will also be the host institution, along with the Central Florida's Polk County Sports Marketing, for the NCAA Division II South Regional, which will also be held at Holloway Park on Nov. 4. It is the first time that Florida Southern has hosted a NCAA cross country postseason event.

The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region polls are released every week during the regular season. The poll ranks the Top 10 men's and women's cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions. Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in their own region with input from the coaches.
