Nelson Paces FSC to 7th Place at Trevecca D2 Showcase

NASHVILLE, TN - Hannah Nelson finished 19th to pace Florida Southern to a seventh-place finish at the Trevecca Division II Showcase Invitational here Saturday at the Percy Warner Park. The Moccasins totaled 211 points in the race that featured 17 teams.

Nelson, in her second season at Florida Southern, turned in a personal-best time of 19:33.7 to place 19th in the field of 146 runners.

Freshman Hannah Flemming, competing in her first collegiate 5K, came in 46th place with a time of 20:13.9 while fellow freshman Mercedes Mendoza was 54th at 20:27.3. Junior Aleksa Guerra was three places back in 57th place with a time of 20:38.0 while sophomore Anna Brook Opalinski placed 64th with a personal-best time of 20:49.4. Junior Jolene Vergauwen ran 20:55.5 to place 68th while freshman Amber Winton turned in a time of 21:31.6 to place 82nd. Junior Amanda Slattery came in 93rd at 21:48.8 to round out the Moccasin finishers.

Sophomore Allison Wright did not finish the race after falling with a half mile yet to go.

Florida Southern will run next on Friday, Oct. 6 at the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, FL.
