Women's Cross Country Drops One Spot in Regional Poll

NEW ORLEANS – Following a seventh-place finish at the Trevecca D2 Showcase, the Florida Southern women's cross country team dropped one spot to number eight after being ranked seventh for three straight weeks in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Regional Poll released Tuesday.

The Moccasins were seventh in the 17-team field at the Showcase on Saturday behind a 19th-place showing by sophomore Hannah Nelson. A pair of freshman were next across the line as Hannah Flemming took 46th and Mercedes Mendoza came in 54th.

Florida Southern has the weekend off from competition before returning to action on Friday, Oct. 6 at the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee.

The top three teams remain the same this week with Lee holding down the top spot for a second straight week, followed by Saint Leo and Tampa. Embry-Riddle moves up one spot to fourth while Alabama-Huntsville slides up one to fifth.

Montevallo dropped two spots to sixth while Christian Brothers moved up one to number seven, followed by the Moccasins, West Florida, and Delta State.

The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region polls are released every week during the regular season. The poll ranks the Top 10 men's and women's cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions. Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in their own region with input from the coaches.
