SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 8 Florida Southern College women's lacrosse team defeated No. 20 Saint Leo University 17-4 on Wednesday night, at University Turf Field.
The Mocs defeated their second ranked opponent in as many games, as junior
Lizzie Lynch paced the Mocs with five goals and one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
- The host Lions got on the scoreboard first, just 32 seconds into the game, on an unassisted goal.
- The Mocs responded with a six-goal outburst, with senor midfielder Catherine DeKorte kotting the score at one goal apiece.
- From there, senior attack Sarah Grady put the Mocs up 2-1, before Lynch scored back-to-back goals to put the Mocs up 4-1.
- Grady then setup sophomore attack Katie Yeagle for the eventual game-winner, just ten minutes into the game.
- Lynch would get two more goals in the first half, as the Mocs led 9-2 at the break
2nd Half
- Grady would open the second half with an unassisted woman-up goal, before Saint Leo scored their third goal of the game.
- In the second half, junior midfielder Maliah Benedetto would score three times, as senior attack Marina Jozokos would tally twice.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Patricia Werker played the entire game in goal for Florida Southern, recording eight saves on 18 shots faced.
- Lynch led the team with six points, while Grady added five, on three goals and two assists.
- Benedetto added four goals, while Jozokos added three.
