LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Lynn University in convincing fashion on Wednesday night, 18-2, on Moccasin Field. The Mocs, who are ranked No. 7 in the country, improve to 5-1 on the year, while Lynn drops to 1-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
- Sophomore Lizzy Lynch scored the game's first goal in the game's first minute, taking a feed from senior Sarah Grady.
- Sophomore attack Hailey Daleo then scored the game's next four straight goals, and the Mocs were off to the races.
- Junior midfielder Maliah Benedetto scored a woman-up goal at the 15:56 mark, to make the score 10-0 for Southern.
- After a Lynn goal, the Mocs responded with four more in the first half for a 14-1 lead at the break.
- Freshman Elise Alders scored her first college goal during that run.
- Starting goalie Patricia Werker made three saves in the first 30 minutes of play to earn the win.
2nd Half
- Freshman Krystal Beebe scored her third goal of the season to open the second half, putting the Mocs up 15-1.
- Benedetto would score twice more in the second half, with freshman Olivia Manghisi scoring her first college goal as well, to round out the Mocs scoring.
- Senior Brittany Iamele and freshman Sydney O'Neill split the second half in goal, making four and two saves, respectively.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Daleo led the attack today with five gals, while senior Marina Jozokos tallied three goals and three assists.
- Lynch added four points on a pair of goals and as many assists, while Benedetto recorded three goals.
- In all, nine different Mocs scored goals today.
- This is the second time this season that Daleo has scored five goals in a game. She also did so in the win over Tampa on March 31. She has now recorded five points in four of her five games played this season.
- Jozokos has recorded assists in five of her six games played, and her six points today is one shy of her season-high, seven, done against Rollins last week.
- Southern was a perfect four-for-four in free position attempts.
- FSC outshot Lynn, 28-12.
- On the season Jozokos leads the team in total points with 30, on 18 goals and 12 assists.
- Daleo leads the team in goals scored with 22.
UP NEXT
The Mocs travel to face Florida Tech on Saturday, April 17, for a 1:00 p.m. first draw. Earlier this season, Florida Southern defeated Tech, 17-3, in the season opener for both programs.
