LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-14 decision to visiting Rollins College on Saturday afternoon, as the Mocs celebrated Senior Day on Moccasin Field. Junior attack
Jeff Atlas paced the Mocs offense with four goals and one assist, while junior attack
Cody Bielec and junior midfielder
Edward May each added a pair of goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter
- The Mocs exploded for seven goals in the first quarter.
- Rollins actually got on the board first, just 1:12 into the game.
- Atlas then scored his first goal of the game to tie the score at one.
- Rollins then took a 2-1 lead, before the Mocs went on a three-goal run, in an 18 second span.
- First, junior attack Sean Nolan took a pass from sophomore Griffin Phillips to tie the score at two.
- Next, senior midfielder Kevin Horwitz won the ensuing faceoff, and went right to the cage, and scored an unassisted goal. Horwitz then won the next faceoff, which led to May's first goal of the game, and the Mocs led, 4-2.
- Rollins would then trim the lead to 4-3, before another Mocs three-goal run. Bielec, sophomore attack Thomas Frank, and Atlas put Florida Southern up 7-3, before Rollins ended the quarter with a goal, for a 7-4 result after the first quarter.
2nd Quarter
- Atlas scored a man-up goal to start the second quarter, at the 13:16 mark.
- Rollins would score five times in the quarter, interrupted only by a man-down goal for Florida Southern's Phillips. FSC goalie Matt Halperin made a save, and sent a quick outlet pass to the long stick defender Phillips, who went the distance for the man-down goal.
3rd Quarter
- Rollins scored a man-up goal to start the second half, putting the Tars up, 10-9.
- The teams would trade goals, with May and senior midfielder Justin Dunleavy scoring for the Mocs. The score was tied at 11, with 8:39 remaining in the third quarter.
- Rollins scored three unanswered goals to end the third, taking a 14-11 lead with 15 minutes to play.
4th Quarter
- Bielec scored his second goal of the game to start the final stanza, cutting the lead to just two goals, 14-12.
- Again, a three-goal Rollins run propelled the Tars to a large lead, at 17-12, with 9:13 remaining in the game.
- Atlas scored a man-up goal at 8:03, followed by a Carson Wallace man-up goal, for the final score, 17-14.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Mocs scored seven of their 14 goals today in the first quarter.
- Nine different Mocs scored goals today.
- Halperin started the game in goal for Florida Southern, making five saves in just over 32 minutes of action. Junior Maxwell Freestone finished the game between the pipes, recording eight saves.
- Florida Southern won 22 of 35 faceoffs today, led by Horwitz, who went 21 of 34. Trevor Hatherly won the other faceoff for Florida Southern.
- The Mocs took eight penalties for 6:30, while the Tars took six penalties for 6:00.
- On the extra man, FSC went 3-for-6, while Rollins went 4-for-8.

Florida Southern will host Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, April 28, at 7:00 p.m. The game replaced the originally scheduled game against Lynn, which was postponed.
