MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 13-9 decision at Florida Tech on Tuesday afternoon, in a non-conference game. The game was originally slated for March 20, but had been moved to today.
Edward May paced the Mocs (1-2 overall, 1-1 SSC) with two goals and three assists, while
Cody Bielec added a pair of goals and one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter
- After Tech (2-3, 1-3 SSC) opened the scoring midway through the quarter, Bielec knotted the score, on an assist from May.
- Tech then took a 3-1 lead before May tallied his first goal of the game, unassisted, with just under one minute remaining in the quarter.
2nd Quarter
- The teams traded goals before Sean Nolan scored a man-up goal, followed by a Carson Wallace goal, and the Mocs had tied the score at five, with 6:50 remaining in the half.
- Tech would then put two more on the board before half, for the 7-5 lead.
3rd Quarter
- Tech opened up a three-goal lead, 8-5, when Jeff Atlas scored his third goal of the season to cut the deficit back to two.
- Justin Dunleavy would also score in the period, as the Panthers held an 11-8 lead after three.
4th Quarter
- Ryan Gorecki scored the lone goal for the Mocs, sandwiched between two Panther goals, for the 13-9 final
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Maxwell Freestone made 14 saves in goal for Florida Southern, playing all 60 minutes.
- Tech outshot Southern, 54-43.
- Seven different Mocs scored goals.
- Florida Southern's Nolan scored the game's only man-up goal. The Mocs were 1-5 as a team, while Tech was 0-8.
