Mocs Women's Lacrosse Beats Florida Tech, 19-6

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 7 Florida Southern College women's lacrosse team continued to roll through Sunshine State Conference opposition, winning at Florida Tech on Wednesday night, 19-6. Sophomore attack Hailey Daleo paced the Mocs with seven goals, as Florida Southern improves to 8-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half
  • Florida Southern scored the first seven goals of the game, and never trailed.
  • Marina Jozokos started the assault, scoring in the game's first minute, unassisted.
  • Daleo would score three goals during that initial run, as Lizzy Lynch, Sarah Grady, and Maliah Benedetto each tallied once.
  • After a Tech goal, the Mocs put five unanswered goals on the board, taking as 12-1 lead.
  • The game would be interrupted by lightning for over an hour, before the Mocs took a 13-2 advantage into halftime.
2nd Half
  • Daleo opened the second half with a goal 36 seconds in.
  • Tech responded with a three-goal run, trimming the score to 14-5.
  • The Mocs then scored five straight goals, coming from Daleo (2), Jozokos, Benedetto, and Lynch.
  • Tech would score one last time, for the 19-6 final
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Sophomore goalie Patricia Werker made three saves in the game, all coming in the first half, as she recorded the win.
  • FSC out-shot Tech, 34-13.
  • Southern won 18 draw controls, to Tech's nine.
  • Three of Daleo's seven goals came from the free position.
  • Lynch and Benedetto each scored four goals in the game, while Jozokos added three goals and four assists. Lynch added two assists for six points on the night.
UP NEXT
The Mocs conclude the regular season by hosting No. 8 Tampa on Friday night, May 7, at 7 p.m. After that, the team will await the announcement of the NCAA Championships field, which happens on Sunday night.
