Mocs Minutes: FSC Basketball Travels Up I-4 to Take on Rollins

  • Florida Southern will continue their road campaign off three consecutive wins against conference opponents as the Mocs most recent win came from Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday by a score of 80-63. Whitney Jacob continued to dominate as she earned back-to-back SSC defensive player of the week honors. Jacob led the Mocs defensively during last week's games. Mackenzie Steele had her best game thus far of the season, as the redshirt junior earned a new season-high of 25 points going 7-for-9 from beyond the arc. Julia Jenike and Jacob followed along with 20 points and 17 points to round out the double-digit scoring for the Mocs.
  • On the season, Whitney Jacob continues to lead the team in scoring and remains second in the conference with a 17.6 per game average and 317 overall points. Julia Jenike leads the conference, averaging .483 from beyond the 3-point arc against conference opponents. Jenike averages 15.3 points per game to move to fifth in the SSC in the field goal percentage against conference opponents, with a .490. Sara Wohlgemuth leads the Mocs and remains at eighth in the SSC for assists against SSC opponents, averaging 3.2 assists per game.
  • In conference play, Whitney Jacob, Julia Jenike, and now Mackenzie Steele are three Mocs with a double-digit scoring average as they are hitting a 16.8 for Jenike followed by Jacob with a 16.5 scoring average in conference action, and Steele breaking in with 10.0.
  • Rollins had two consecutive losses before receiving their second conference win of the season and breaking their seven game losing streak as the Tars last win was against PBA on Jan. 22 with a score of 58-53. Rollins most recently fell to the Panthers of Florida Tech on the road with a 67-61 decision.
  • On the season, Rollins is holding the worst team field goal percentage in the conference, as the Tars are shooting .321. In their matchup earlier this season, the Mocs had the biggest win this season thus far with a 78-48 margin win.
  • In conference play, this is the second meeting between these two teams this season, with the first coming on December 31st. Florida Southern's win over the Tars was the last one to close out the 2021 portion of the schedule at home. Julia Jenike led the Mocs in that contest with 22 points, while Ashley Shell earned a season-high of 15 rebounds. Two other Mocs scored in double-digits with freshman Arielle Dabu dishing out 16 points followed by Steele with 14 of her own. The team shot .391 from field goal range, .483 from the 3-point arc, and .778 from the line.
  • HISTORY: Florida Southern holds a 57-46 series lead heading into the 104th meeting between the Mocs and Tars. Florida Southern is 20-23 against Rollins on the road, the most recent away matchup coming on Jan. 8, 2020, that saw the Moccasins defeat the Tars 60-56.

  • Florida Southern travels up I4 after winning both previous games which included a 85-73 road win at Palm Beach Atlantic. The Moccasins were led by E.J. Dambreville who notched a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead all players in the game in both categories.
  • On the season, FSC averages 80.4 points per game paced by Xavier Rhodes and Dambreville's 13.8 points per game. Jack Casale is third on the team in scoring per game with an average of 13.2, just ahead of Tarik Mckelphin's 12.5 ppg. Dambreville leads the Mocs in rebounding with 190 on the season, 10.0 per game.
  • In conference play, the Mocs average 80.6 ppg where Dambreville's team-leading average adjusts to 15.3 ppg and 9.6 rebounds per game. Rhodes follows at 13.9 with Casale behind at 12.6 and Mckelphin at 12.2.
  • Rollins welcomes the Mocs and rides a five-game win streak, but sits at just 7-5 at home. The Tars' last outing was a two-point victory 67-65 on the road at Florida Tech where Brooks Cluxton hit a jumper with six seconds to play to push the Tars ahead of the Panthers for the win. The Tars top player, Hutton Yenor led the team with 23 points while Cade Long added 10. Brooks Cluxton finished the game with eight points but led Rollins with 14 rebounds.
  • On the season, the Tars average 80.0 points per game offensively behind Yenor's 19.7 ppg. Kyle Marion and Cluxton round out the double-figure averages for Rollins with 18.0 ppg and 11.8 ppg, respectively. Cluxton nearly averages a double-double at 9.9 rebounds per game.
  • In conference play, Rollins averages 1.3 more points per game, 81.3, than the overall season average. Yenor pushes his average to 22.2 ppg while in conference play with Marion at 18.5, Cluxton with 14.0 and Cade Long joining the trio with 10.2 ppg himself. Cluxton moves his average of rebounds per game to 11.5 per conference game.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs hold a 124-59 overall record and are looking to tie the season series after a 96-77 decision went in favor of Rollins on Dec. 31, when the Mocs were shorthanded after the holiday break. In the game, Yenor topped the charts at 24 points, Marion close behind with 22, as Casale led FSC with 18 points, just ahead of DeAndre Campbell with 16. In games played in Winter Park, Florida Southern stands at 48-35, which includes the last meeting on Jan. 8, 2020 in an 85-83 win.
