LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Florida Southern College beach volleyball captured a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon taking down Ave Maria University 4-1 before defeating the host Palm Beach State College 3-2.
The Moccasins (4-0) opened with a 4-1 against the Ave Maria Gyrenes before a 3-2 battle against the Palm Beach State College Panthers. Of the 10 total pairings on the day, the Mocs only saw three games go to three sets, only dropping one of the three.
Emma Winford and
Ashli McKenny took care of their matches 2-0 as Winford and Mckenny defeated Ave Maria No. 1 flight 21-8, 21-8 before taking down PBSC 21-13, 21-16.
Christina Ramazio and
Sydney Melcher paired up as the number No. 3 flight and defeated Ave Maria in three sets 21-18,17-21, 15-8, before topping the Panthers 21-17, 21–13.
Sarah Crocker and
Reagan Carlton rallied back to win in three at the number two pairings over Ave Maria's No.2 flight 20-22, 21-19,15-7. The duo then fell to Palm Beach State College 21-14, 21-12.
Hayley St. Martin and
Mary Olivia Muti paired up and played the No. 4 flight for the Moccasins splitting the matches. St. Martin and Muti dominated in game one over the Gyrenes, 21-9, 21-8, before fighting hard in the final match forcing it to three sets, 21-19, 15-21, 10-15.
Hailey Carefoot and
Jackie Schner split the No.5 flight 21-9, 21-19 (AMU), and 21-15, 21-19 (PBSC).
In exhibition play,
Madeline Sanders and
Chloe Maxwell paired up against the two teams winning both matches in straight sets. First Sanders and Maxwell took down Ave Maria, 21-17, 21-10 before a tougher fight against Palm Beach State 21-15, 21-18.
Florida Southern Beach Volleyball returns to action on Feb. 24 in Lakeland. Fla. Judy and Joe P. Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts as they host Barry University and St. Johns River Community College for a tri-match.
