#2 Mocs Drop Sunday Showdown to #6 Panthers

LAKELAND, Fla. – No. 2 Florida Southern dropped a top-10 showdown to No. 6 Adelphi Sunday afternoon at Berend Field.
 
No. 2 Florida Southern (3-1) saw Jackie Stoller and Madison Tare lead the way with three goals apiece while Stoller paced the team in total with seven points, adding four assists. Jenna Vetter, Abby McFerren, and Kelsey Bennett each found the back of the net Sunday as Vetter finished with two and McFerren and Bennett one each.
 
McKenzie Gaghan played the full 60 minutes in goal, making nine saves in the loss moving to 3-1 in-between the pipes for the Moccasins. Ellie Griffin led the Moccasins in draw controls with five while Stoller edged Kolby Cohen for the lead in groundballs, 4-to-3. 
 
No. 6 Adelphi saw Marielle Colalillo have a 10-point day with five goals and five assists ahead of Rita Sefransky's six points on three goals and three assists. Kerrin Heuser and Kelly-Ann McGrath both chipped in four goals and one assist. Danielle Marino, Payson Hedges, and Tamia Lawson all finished with one goal each to close the 19 team goals.
 
Jillian McFadden tallied eight saves in her second win after playing the full 60 minutes for the Panthers.
 
The Mocs opened the first frame with a goal as Jackie Stoller found Madison Tare for the 1-0 lead. The Panthers answered with two quick goals but Tare and Kelsey Bennett gave Florida Southern the 3-2 first quarter lead.
 
Stoller would score the lone two goals for Florida Southern in the second frame as Adelphi registered seven to take a 9-5 lead at the half.
 
Abby McFerren took a pass from Stoller inside and placed it into the back of the net before Tare scored her third goal of the game to cut the deficit to 9-7 with 10:19 to play in the third. Adelphi outscored Florida Southern 3-1 in the closing minutes for a 12-8 score heading to the fourth quarter. Jenna Vetter scored her first career goal in the frame to keep the Mocs close.
 
After back-to-back goals by Adelphi to open the final frame of regulation, Stoller scored her 21st goal for the year a minute before Vetter scored her second off a Stoller assist to bring the Mocs back within four. Vetter's goal at the 10:39 mark would serve as the final goal of the night for Florida Southern as Adelphi went on to score five more to take the 19-10 win.
 
No. 2 Florida Southern remains at home for a 10x a.m. matchup with No. 15 Wingate on March 2 before a March 4 11 a.m. meeting with No. 10 Regis (CO).
