ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Florida Southern beach volleyball team faced their first loss of the season in their second game Tuesday afternoon against Eckerd College at the Baker Beach Complex. Florida Southern played two games on the Tritons courts, first facing off against Webber International University, followed by a match-up against Eckerd College.

The Mocs (13-1) faced off against the Knights (4-7) in a close match-up before FSC emerged victorious with a 3-2 win. The beach volleyball team then went on to play against the Eckerd Tritons (2-10) and, in a major upset, suffered a 3-2 loss, breaking both Florida Southern's winning streak.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 3, WEBBER 2
The Mocs faced off against the Knights winning two matches and falling to Webber in the No.4 flight court in a close three-set match, evening up the score for all eyes on No. 5 flight. In court one, we saw
Ashli McKenny and
Emma Winford take the first set 21-6 before winning the second 21-15. On Court 2,
Hayley St. Martin and
Reagan Carlton fell to Webber's Reid and Tisdale 21-19, 21-16. The No.3 duo
Sarah Crocker and
Mary Olivia Muti rallied in their first set, winning 22-20 before taking the next set 21-18 and winning their court.
Christina Ramazio and
Sydney Melcher took their match on court No. 4 to the third set before falling to Webber 17-21, 21-19, 17-15.

In the fifth court,
Jackie Schner and
Hailey Carefoot took both sets against WIU's Cancio and Morton, winning their flight 21-12, 21-12. The Mocs won the competition 3-2, continuing their winning season.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 2, ECKERD 3
The Mocs went on to face off against Eckerd in their second game of the day in a series of intense matches. In the first match of the competition, McKenny and Winford took it to the third set before victory slipped past them in a 16-21, 21-19, 15-12 loss. In court #2, Carlton and St. Martin joined up again for a 21-15, 21-19 victory. Crocker and Muti fought hard, taking the Tritons to the three sets before they fell 24-26, 21-19, 15-7. Melcher and Ramazio took it to the three sets and won 13-21, 21-17, 15-11.

All eyes were on No.5, where Schner and Carefoot faced off against Teagan VanderMey and Rachel Jackson for the deciding point. Schner and Carefoot took it to the third set before falling 21-19, 20-22, 15-10, ending the Mocs' record-breaking winning streak of 13-0. In exhibition play,
Chloe Maxwell and
Madeline Sanders beat their Eckerd opponents 21-11, 21-18.

FSC returns to the sand Friday, March 15 in another tri-match against Erskine College and St. Johns River. The matches will be hosted by St. Johns River, and FSC will face off against Erskine first at 1 p.m. followed by St. Johns at 3 p.m.
